Cerealia/Libertas/Ides of April

The springtime festival of Libertas, the Roman goddess of Liberty.

The Pagan Book Of Days, Nigel Pennick

April 13 is the birthday of Thomas Jefferson, 3rd president of the United States, principle author of the Declaration Of Independence.

“Malo periculosam, libertatem quam quietam servitutem.‡ … I hold it that a little rebellion now and then is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical.”

— Thomas Jefferson, The Papers Of Thomas Jefferson [entire volumes online]
January 30, 1787 (to James Madison)

‡ Translation: “I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery.” also “I prefer the tumult of liberty to the quiet of servitude.”

Truth will do well enough if left to shift for herself. She seldom has received much aid from the power of great men to whom she is rarely known & seldom welcome. She has no need of force to procure entrance into the minds of men. Error indeed has often prevailed by the assistance of power or force. Truth is the proper & sufficient antagonist to error.

Emancipation –  Emily Dickinson

No rack can torture me,
My soul’s at liberty
Behind this mortal bone
There knits a bolder one

You cannot prick with saw,
Nor rend with scymitar.
Two bodies therefore be;
Bind one, and one will flee.

The eagle of his nest
No easier divest
And gain the sky,
Than mayest thou,

Except thyself may be
Thine enemy;
Captivity is consciousness,
So’s liberty.

We rarely want to have the challenges that are put in front of us. As humans we don’t like challenge like this because it is painful to grow in these ways. These things that link to, though, the growing from oppression and linking to the Powers and the Collective Unconscious where freedom and the Joy of the human heart come together is something that I want you to pay attention to in you. And realize that you have that spark and that it can’t ever be extinguished.
You can always go to that and know that is there for you – whether it be Victor Frankl, Martin Luther King, Moses – all of the liberators – they’re out there. And none of them wanted to have that put on his plate. But when it is, then I deal with it, and then things can really begin to happen. Very difficult things need to be done soon times. But the likelihood that you go into depression when you’re linking up to that purpose, that spirit, is much smaller. Not that there are sorrows and there isn’t anxiety. But there’s a determination that even overcomes these things. And people can shit all over you all they want, but it just won’t stick. — T.S.

This is about throwing off the hands of terrorism that you’ve lived under your entire life. Since you’re throwing off something you must open to something; you can’t just throw off and then fly into the space. You’ve got to tap into what is your true birthright. — T.S.

Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.
― Rumi

O, my friend, my beloved, I had gone to search, to seek myself, but something strange has happened. Rather than finding myself, I have disappeared just like a dewdrop disappearing in the ocean. The dewdrop has disappeared in the ocean. Now how can you find the dewdrop again? — Kabir
